Finding a Unique Baptism Gift

Lori Smith tells us how she loves to look for a baptism gift that is different.

Regardless of the occasion, it can be difficult deciding on a present. If it’s a specific occasion such as a baptism then it’s even more awkward as there is a limit to what kind of present you can give.  You want a baptism gift to represent the occasion but be different to all the other gifts the baby will receive. Luckily, there are a few original choices for those who are looking for the perfect baptism gift.

A favorite baptism gift of mine used to be a baby’s first Bible. I personalized the gift wi th a love note to the baby which, to my mind, made it special and unique. I did this for several baptisms until I realized that in fact it wasn’t a unique idea.  My great-niece received three of these bibles as a baptism gift, all with handwritten sentiments. Of course, all the notes were special in their own way but perhaps diminished a little by being one of several.

I started on a mission to find a unique baptism gift so this wouldn’t happen again. My next great idea was a silver frame for the baby’s christening picture. This baptism gift seemed like the perfect idea until I attended a christening party where no fewer than five other frames had been presented. So I decided to keep looking.

When searching online, I found what I think is the perfect solution to the problem.  I discovered an innovative idea for a baptism gift in an online store specializing in personalized items. This distinctive present is a hand-painted plate that is personalized for each baby. Each one is handcrafted and is totally individual.

When ordering the plate you need to include the baby’s name, the date of the baptism and a special verse that you write yourself. The verse is another individual touch that makes the baptism gift one of a kind. This present does take quite a bit of thought but it is well worth it.

For now, I will continue to give a plate as a unique and individual present to mark the special occasion. That is, until I attend a baptism party where someone else has the same idea. Then, as much as I love the idea of the hand-painted baby plate, I will take up the challenge to look for a different item for the next baptism gift. I love challenges like that!
