Newborn Baby Gifts
If you have friends or relatives who are expecting a baby, you may be wondering what kind of newborn baby gifts you can give them. Many new parents don’t realize quite how much stuff their baby needs, which is where you come in.
Many people give clothes as newborn baby gifts, and with a wide variety to choose from it’s hard to go wrong. One-piece sleepers, bodysuits, cardigans, t-shirts and pants are all suitable as newborn baby gifts. If it’s winter then the parents might welcome a padded coat, or hats, mittens and bootees. Don’t worry if you think everyone else will be buying clothes; newborn babies are extremely messy and need to be changed often. One thing to remember is, if you buy slightly larger clothes that the baby will grow into, make sure they’re season-appropriate. My daughter, born in October, was given several pretty summer dresses, but by the time summer came around they were too small. Newborn babies can never have too many bibs, another popular choice for a gift. And, since babies need to be bathed every day, a soft toweling robe might be useful. If you like the idea of fabric newborn baby gifts, but don’t want to give clothing, then consider bedding. Like clothes, crib sheets and blankets frequently get soiled and parents need lots of them. Sleep sacks are popular nowadays and would make a good gift. Extra-soft towels are lovely for a baby’s delicate skin. Diapers, while not the most glamorous of newborn baby gifts, are extremely useful as parents need a never-ending supply for their baby. You may want to find out what kind the parents prefer; while most go for disposable diapers, parents interested in the environment may want to use fabric diapers instead. Whichever you choose, it can help with the initial expense of a newborn baby. A diaper bag is a necessity for most parents and come in a surprisingly large choice of styles, from backpacks to ones especially for dads. If you decide on a diaper bag for a newborn baby gift, then a nice touch is to fill it with essentials like diapers, lotion, scented sacks and wipes. If you know that the new mom will be breastfeeding, then a useful gift would be a nursing pillow or cushion.
There are some useful gadgets you can give as newborn baby gifts too. Most parents will want a monitor to listen out for their baby when they’re in another part of the house. Digital thermometers are something else to consider; they can be used for checking room temperature, how hot the bath water is, or if the baby is feverish. Microwave sterilizers are a handy gift. One thing I found invaluable as a new mom was a container for storing used diapers. It wrapped them up hygienically in scented film and stored them odor-free until I could dispose of them properly. A new gadget I saw recently warms baby wipes before you use them! So, there are lots to choose for newborn baby gifts.
If you’re soon-to-be grandparents, or one of a group of friends clubbing together for a gift, then you may be considering larger items as newborn baby gifts. These could include a stroller, a crib, a car seat, a baby changing dresser or table (great for the back) or a piece of nursery furniture. Check with the parents first to see what they would like. An easy way to purchase large items is by doing it online. It’s also nice to go with the parents-to-be to a baby store where they can pick their choice of items. You can buy their chosen present outright or give them a gift certificate.
Always welcome as newborn baby gifts are toys such as teddies and rattles, mobiles or lullaby nightlights. My daughter, aged 10, still has a teddy bear that was made for her when she was born and it’s a nice reminder of the person, now gone, who gave her it.
There are so many newborn baby gifts to choose from that you may be spoiled for choice. Whatever you give, though, be it small or large, the parents will appreciate that you took the time and the thought to give them the gift.
